Reliever Edward Mujica has been traded. Yesterday the pitcher was sent to the Oakland Athletics for either a player to be named or cash considerations, according to ESPN.com.
News of the trade came after John Farrell had hinted that roster changes were on the way. The trade came the day after the 31-year-old pitcher was designated for assignment by the team. In his 11 games with the Red Sox this season he was 1-1 with an ERA of 4.61.
Mujica joins Allen Craig as another disappointing, former St. Louis Cardinal that the team has acquired in recent years. Though he posted 37 saves for the Cardinals in 2013 and was an All-Star, Mujica has been mediocre-at-best with the Sox, pitching for them 75 times across two seasons, going 3-5 with eight saves and an ERA of 4.03.
