It looks like Carson Smith will be in The Red Sox bullpen soon. The reliever was planned to pitch Thursday down in Fort Myers, Fla. in a extended spring training game, and is planning to pitch again this Saturday.
“He’s actually in an extended (spring training) game (Thursday), not a simulated game, so he’s advancing pretty good here,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said about the player.
This is such a pleasing thing to know because the Sox’s overall pitching situation is a mess. So at this point, it is necessary for Smith to join the team as soon as he can and it seems that his arm will be ready to join soon too.
“The change to a game versus a sim game was because of how well he’s responding to the work so far,” commented Farrell.
This is exactly what teammates and fans want to hear. We need a player who is a fast healer and can show us they can get the job done when they are on the mound.
It is expected of Smith to have a rehab assignment after his next spring training game. So the Sox will be reevaluating Smith on Saturday and hopefully becoming an affiliate early in the week.
I can totally see Smith joining the bullpen in the very near future.
