Big Papi to the Big Screen

Some people say Big Papi is larger than life. Well he now may be.

David Ortiz is set to be in a documentary on EPIX called “David Ortiz in the Moment,” which is being produced by Relativity Sports in partnership with Major League Baseball Productions. The documentary is being chronicled to journey the slugger’s life from the Dominican Republic to Major League Stardom. The program is set to make its world television premiere Thursday, July 17, at 8 p.m. ET.

“David Ortiz is a larger-than-life baseball star,” EPIX CEO and president Mark Greenberg said, according to a press release. “From his leadership role helping guide the Red Sox to win three World Series titles to his civic work in the U.S. and the Dominican Republic to the compassionate, funny and empathetic way he embraced and comforted Bostonians and all of America following last year’s Boston Marathon bombing, he is a true inspiration.”

As charismatic as Ortiz is, the entertainment factor outside of Baseball should be must see enough. I have a feeling this is going to be a good one and might be a great idea to tune into during the summer months. Especially if the Sox continue to underperform.

Let’s just hope Ortiz’s film career doesn’t have him putting baseball on the back burner, the big slugger looks a bit bigger than usual around the waist, so hopefully he’s still got his head in the game.
